Last Month Obama Raised $25 million in ONE DAY and gets a new Plane (Updated)

So the FISA debacle did have an impact, but at the end of the month a lot of people basically bombed the campaign.

After locking up his party’s presidential nomination, Barack Obama’s fundraising operation came roaring back to life in June, generating more than a million dollars on five days, including a whopping $25 million that came in on the last day of the month.

His one-day haul represents nearly half of his monthly total and more than Republican rival John McCain generated for the entire month. During the month, McCain did not have a single day in which he raised a million dollars.

Now news like this should scare the Republicans even more shitless than they are right now. Obama raised in ONE DAY more than McCain raised in the ENTIRE MONTH! Mind you, ALL McCain has been doing (other than smearing Obama and having fake town halls) is fundraising.

While McCain is spending all of his money on TV commercials (that pretty much concentrate on smearing Obama and pimping his time as a POW), the Obama campaign and the DNC has been concentrating on building up the grassroots.

The two candidates spent about the same amount of money in June — Obama spent $26 million and McCain spent $27 million.

But their priorities were entirely different as Obama began building what his campaign says will be an unprecedented, nationwide ground operation.

McCain in June spent $16 million on advertising, compared to Obama’s reported $5 million. Meanwhile, Obama’s payroll expenses amounted to $2.3 million while McCain’s hovered around $724,000.

Obama’s fundraising total represents a turnaround from a steady decline in monthly income that began after his Iowa upset in January.

I've noticed in the news lately (which I'm going to have to go back to not watching to preserve my sanity) that the narrative is trying to suggest that people are no longer excited about Obama, that's not the case. We are just as excited, like Markos said on "Race to the White House" we will fight, we will argue, we will disagree, but we will always come back together because our primary goal is to get Senator Obama in the White House. Also, people need to remember we are barely out of a highly contested and emotional primary season, the adrenaline kind of ran out, but it's coming back. Every day Obama is becoming a stronger candidate and demonstrating his wisdom on an issue that McCain so called "owns"-- foreign policy. His tour right now is going great, and much to the media's dismay he's not making a bunch of mistakes, and he's getting some great photo ops while he learns more about what's going on first hand.

I have a feeling this is going to be a great week! We're off to an awesome start!

Also, Camp O has secured new transportation:

Obama's newly reconfigured plane is divided into first class for the candidate and his closest advisors--such as strategist David Axelrod, who is on the flight; business class seats, occupied Sunday by foreign affairs advisors such as Denis McDonough and coach, where 41 journalists who are part of the traveling Obama press corps are seated.

UPDATE As noted in the comments, it's possible the entire $25 million may not have come in on one day, but it's still impressive even if it was over the course of a week because it's STILL more than McCain raised all month.

:o)
