Isreali paper SERIOUSLY invades Obama's Privacy (Updated)

Fri Jul 25, 2008 at 07:06:23 AM PDT

This is going to be short and to the point. There are some things that should not be violated. Yesterday morning, Senator Obama visited the Western Wall and observed the tradition of writing a prayer and sticking it in the wall. Well a yeshiva student took the note OUT of the wall, and gave it to a newspaper.

I realize that by making this diary I too am sort of invading Obama's privacy, but I am outraged by this. Is NOTHING sacred around here? It's not bad enough that the media is sniffing around Obama 24/7 like he's Angelina Jolie in her last week of pregnancy. It's not bad enough that Obama can't even attending his daughter's soccer game without the pool reporters counting the number of times he yawns. It's not bad enough that his every little move is dissected and analyzed (and the analysis usually isn't that great). But the man can't even leave a prayer in a wall without someone going and taking something that is very private and making it public.

The media is going too far. I understand that being the President of the United States is an important job. I understand that people want to know everything they can about Obama. The man has written TWO very personal books that they can go purchase or borrow from their library and read all about him. The press literally gets upset that Obama will go on dates with his wife and NOT let them go in the restaurant to see what they ordered. The press was whining earlier this week because Obama didn't let them stalk him through Iraq and Afghanistan. They get mad that his campaign isn't giving them 24/7 access to the candidate. The man can't have ANYTHING to himself. And now someone has taken something that is VERY personal, and PUBLISHED IT IN A NEWSPAPER. I read about it on the Politico. I bet it will be all over the news soon. I admit I read the prayer, and while short it was very personal.

This is going too far.

UPDATE: The AP has picked it up. In the comments it has been said that it's wrong to blame the media, when the media isn't reporting it (even though I never expressly blamed the U.S. media in the original diary).

To be fair, there are Israeli's that are condemning this action.

The paper's decision to make the note public drew fire. The rabbi in charge of the Western Wall, Shmuel Rabinovitz, said publishing the note intruded in Obama's relationship with God.

"The notes placed between the stones of the Western Wall are between a person and his maker. It is forbidden to read them or make any use of them," he told Army Radio. The publication "damages the Western Wall and damages the personal, deep part of every one of us that we keep to ourselves," he said.

Another Israeli paper, Yediot Ahronot, published an article Friday saying it had also obtained the note but decided not to publish it to respect Obama's privacy.

There have been some jokesabout what was in the note, but it's one thing to joke about it, it's something else entirely to go and actually GET the note out of the wall.
